Thrown porcelain dish and enamel on copper earrings embedded with gold leaf
About Me
I started making ceramics at St John’s College, York in the 1980s, followed by a post-graduate year at Goldsmith’s, University of London. I moved to Zimbabwe in 1992 and taught ceramics at Harare Polytechnic whilst running my own ceramics studio making thrown slipware. Returning to the UK in 2002, I began a career as a curator in the museums sector and made pots on a part-time basis using porcelain to create hand thrown pieces with transparent and celadon glazes. I have made enamel on copper earrings for many years after developing an obsession with the enamel firing process, and a simple love of silver jewellery.
I now work exclusively in my studio, based in East Yorkshire, making slab-built ceramic forms that are more sculptural and decorative in approach.
